Hey Darlings! So here are two clear references for drumming notation in case you are lost. We can safely say this is the general standard.


Is this the only way I've seen drums written? NO! For example, I've seen toms written in a ø symbol instead of a filled-in dot. I've also seen the height of the toms vary. Some like to put a circle around the crash (the x with the line on top of the staff). What I've never seen differently is how the cymbals are always marked with an x.


In essence, learn the basics but then always stay open to variations and new ideas for the instrument.
